Resolved Powerbuilder ver 9: Where to start learning

Ok, I am an absolute beginner in powerbuilder. Currently I am working in a company where powerbuilder is being used to develop an application.

Now I had no prior powerbuilder training when I joined this company, but I learned a few things while working in this application, e.g., datawindow, powerscript etc. But I still can't get my head around all the codes , syntax and database connectivity been used in it.

Confused with powerscript,powerbuilder ,PFC words.

All types of suggestions are welcome and do suggest if any video tutorials are available

Hi Radha,

Do you have experience in any other object-oriented language like C#, Java, or Delphi? That will help tremendously in your basic understanding of code structure.

On Appeon-U website there is a "Fundamentals" class as on-line learning.

In general coming from other object-oriented languages and IDEs the highest barriers of entry are:

  1. The DataWindow technology - first understanding it all, later learning to leverage what it can do for you.
  2. The IDEs structure focused on one viewing/editing method at a time.
  3. The PBL library file structure.
  4. PFC specifically - understanding its service-oriented structure of code. PFC was designed mid '90s so it is pre-design patterns era.
  5. Class/code design without interfaces, generics, and reflection.
