Hi!

I have a client with an ancient ERP system built with PowerBuilder Enterprise 8.03 that needs some modifications to hold them over until they are ready to finally upgrade their system.  I would like to help them, but I simply cannot find a version of PowerBuilder Enterprise 8.03 anywhere online.  I have a similar post on the SAP forum. No help.

Any suggestions?  Anyone have an old copy on a shelf somewhere that they wouldn't mind parting with?

Thanks!

Thank you for your input!

Unfortunately for this client, an upgrade like that to version 10 or 10.5 is simply not advisable and out of the question.  The scope of that upgrade project would be way beyond what they need at the moment and they will likely eventually be moving to a completely different platform.  What they have works well enough for them now with a few not-so-minor exceptions.

The best case for them would be to apply some TLC to the current system giving them the time and space they need to breathe and prepare correctly for the next level.

I'm curious though, do you have any suggestions beyond the obvious as to how/where I might find this version of the software?

Thanks!

I have PB 8.0.1 and PB 8.0.4 on my Google drive:

The 8.0.1 is a base install and 8.0.4 is an MR update. I don't have 8.0.3 but 8.0.4 should be close enough and will have some bug fixes. You can upgrade your app to 8.0.4 without any code changes. You'll just have to update the PB runtime on the client machines.

You have to remember how Sybase handled versions of PowerBuilder. They had a baseline install, then they had "upgrades". You will need a license for the baseline install from Sybase.

In your case, PB v7.0 is the baseline install. You will need to get that one and install it successfully first.
On top of that you can then install PBv 8.0, and finally you can install by PBv8.3.
As a side note, PBv8.3 was an upgrade from v8.2, which was a pretty stable version of PB.

Another alternative is to jump to the next baseline, PBv10.0, and migrate the code. The good news is that this version is easier to find and was a much better/more stable version of PB. The bad news is that the licensing scheme at 10.0 or at 10.5 requires your device ID; cannot remember when that bloody fun started. Other news is that PB went from ANSI to UNICODE with the jump to 10.0, and there were a few code changes that you needed to make, especially if the app was using the PFC; the PRINT dialog was the big one.

Version 10.5 was the last one to not have a license check built in. I find it is a huge improvement over 10.

PB7 would only be required if PB8 was purchased as an upgrade. I have installers going back to PB3, I'll see if I can put it on my Google drive.
