With PB 2017 new feature of saving datawindow to PDF is causing application to crash when datawindow contains jpgs (photos). But not all for some photos it works fine. And it is not consistent with size of the photo either.

The application is a client server app (developed in PB 2017 R3 build 1858)

Crash debug points to the following location: Unhandled exception at 0x0FF86CA4 (PBSHR170.DLL) in PB170.EXE: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x27B27675. Also when SaveAs to PDF does work the output file size is 7 times bigger than a file created from printing datawindow to PDF using PDF Creator.

Just tried it on another machine (Windows 10 and Win 7) and it works fine. So must be issue on my machine only. But I'm suspecting it only crashes for me (on my laptop).

I've attached the test PBL and the photo that causes the crash. But there are many other photos that it crashes on.

Hi Eugene;

FYI ... No issues using your TEST.pbl and image in creating a PDF using the NativePDF! option on my W10 test PC's.

Maybe because I have PowerBuilder installed on my machine. Anyway as long as it works on user machines that's all that matters. Thanks for your help Chris.

I've also created a simple test app with two datawindows. Both have one picture object in the header with different jpg files. "Save Rows As" in preview to PDF will work fine for one datawindow but will crash on another (with different jpg file). Both datawindows are set to NativePDF.

Hi Chris,

1. Native PDF

2. The problem is with NativePDF only. Work around is to print to a third party product which works fine. But users do not like extra steps involved.

3. Images are stored on network drives

4. Yes, have tried with 1880. Same issue.

5. Windows 7

Hi Eugene;

1) How is the PDF being produced (NativePDF, Distill or XLSFOLP)?

2) You mention PDF Creator as rendering the PDF. Have you tried any other 3rd party products (ie: PrimoPDF)?

3) Where are the images being loaded from?

4) Have you tried the PDF rendering using the latest PB build 1880?

5) What version of MS-Windows are you using?

Regards ... Chris
