Due to the lack of PowerBuilder developers, we are looking migrating our application to .NET. Has anybody found a solution to migrating a PowerBuilder application that does not involve a rewrite? Does Appeon provide such tools to migrate applications to .NET?

Hi Kenneth, There's no magical solution to convert a PowerBuilder app to another language.  I mean sure there are things like what Francisco suggested, but those tools reduce effort by like 25-30% practically speaking.  So it's still going to be a relative big bullet to bite.  One thing you might want to consider is getting PB staff augmentation from one of our service partners.  We have both offshore (low-cost) and onshore partners.  In case you want a referral, please contact our sales dept. sales@appeon.com.

Hi Kenneth,

Appeon provides something that allows you to make the process of migrating your code a little bit easier.

DataWindow Converter will help you convert your DataWindows into .NET DataStore, which works similarly to an ORM and you can use it to expose your DataWindows as Web APIs, or consume them directly into another application. With this, there would be no need to redesign your data, and with SnapDevelop's scaffolding tools you might be able to get them up and running quite quickly.

Please note that this feature is only available under the Cloud Pro subscription.

Regards,
Francisco

EDIT: I double checked and you don't need a CloudPro edition to work with .NET DataStore, so you can use it under the Professional edition as well
