Hello PB Experts,

My project is upgrade from powerbuilder 7.03 to PB 2017 R2, my question is: is there any know issue, upgrade effort estimation norm to apply into my project.

It is about 1 milion line of code so it is hard to scan source and estimate for each function.

Looking forward to hear from all of you.

Thank you and best regards,

Hi Hung;

Does this App also use the PFC or some other framework in its construction?

Regards ... Chris

Keep in mind also that your version 7 code is non unicode and the PB2017 is unicode, so you may run into some issues there.  Just out of curiosity, why go to R2 and not R3 (build 1880)?  Both are long term support, but R3 has lots more features and also many IDE fixes/enhancements.

Kevin is exactly right! R3 Build 1880 is the way to go... it has the most bug fixes and enhancements so it should offer you the smoothest migration experience possible.

Our project is decided when the latest verion is R2, so we cannot change the version.

I will discuss about change PB version by your suggestion.

Hello Hung,

here below some good and complete readings that you should go through.

https://www.appeon.com/support/documents/appeon_online_help/pb2017r3/migrating_pb_apps/ch03.html

https://www.appeon.com/support/documents/appeon_online_help/pb2017r3/migrating_pb_apps/ch04.html

Just be aware of some discontinued features.

The docs will tell you anything you need in your huge leap towards the future!

Best,

Thank you so much!

I read through these article before, it is realy useful information.

But I think the best way to estimate is real practice that same context, so it will be more accurate.

Anyway thanks for your suggestion.
