Hi

I am migrating a PB 12.5 application to PB 2019. Application run on appeon server 6.5 which will be migrated to Appeon powerserver 2019.

I understand that source code should be fully compatible between both.

Since this is a legacy application that might have started with earlier version of 12.5, I selected all version starting with version 6, 7, 8 ,9 , 11.x in the migrator screen.

All other PB 12.x were greyed out.

The scan gave me the attached result.

Does this list show you any major problems for code to run or just recommendations to change syntax for support to continue? When I did the actual migration it was successful. I did test the application yet though.

Thanks,

You don’t need to worry about this.  If the app is already working in Appeon 6.5 then it will work in 2019.  No features have been removed between these versions of PowerServer.  But I recommend using version 2020 instead of 2019 because that is long-term support version.

Armeen,

Thank you for your reply! That is very good news I wont have to worry about the migrator assistant scan list.

I think then for code migration all I need is to open the PB 12.5 workspace in PB 2019 IDE and make sure the code generation is successful. Am I correct?

Concerning Powerserver 2020, i am not sure why Appeon sent me links to download Powerserver 2019 and PB 2019 which I have installed.

Is powerserver 2019 going out of support soon? normally i think it is supported for 5 years so it should be good through 2024.

Thanks for your support!

Yes, you are correct that you just need to make sure the PBLs are valid in newer version of the PowerBuilder IDE. So you basically load the PBLs and perform a full build and optimize.

You should use PowerBuilder 2019 R2 instead of PowerBuilder 2019. PowerBuilder 2019 R2 comes bundled with PowerServer 2020. PowerBuilder 2019 came bundled with PowerServer 2019. If you are still having problems finding download for PowerServer 2020, please contact your sales rep that processed your maintenance renewal.

Hi Armeen

I do have PB 2019 R2 installed on windows 10 machine and it does include power server 2020 with it.

I downloaded the file for upgrading the powerserver 2019 on DEV and PROD windows server 2016 and will install it tomorrow.

I was told to optimize each PBL in PB 12.5 IDE (windows 7) before I copy the files over to the new PB 2019 R2 IDE (windows 10) and do a build after migration. Do you recommend doing an OPTIMIZE again in PB 2019 after migration before running a full build?

thanks,

I recommend doing it both in PB 12.5 and again in PB 2019 R2. It really shouldn't take that long and is just prudent thing to do because PBLs often times get corrupted.
