Hi.

I was testing PowerBuilder 2021. One thing I wanted to try was to migrate an application from PB 2019 R3 to 2021 Beta and then test it. After I wanted to use PB 2019R3 2670 runtime (from PB 2021 IDE) to rebuild that application. But it seems that this isn't supported. I thought that after PB 2019 R3, we should be able to go to a previous runtime version. Am I wrong? Maybe I haven't understood something?

Andreas.

Hi Andreas, Adding to what Chris said, what you are trying to do is supposed to work so it could be a beta bug.  The following table outlines clearly what combinations are supported and what is not.  Basically, a visual version of what Chris explained in his answer.

IDE (including MRs)

Supported Runtime (including MRs)

Unsupported Runtime

2019 R3

2019 R3

2021 or later

2021

2019 R3, 2021

Thank you Armeen.

I've seen this table.

I opened a support ticket.

Hi Chris.
Ok. So I understand I should be able to compile from PB 2021 using 2019 2670 runtime. The screenshot you see is from PB 2021. I try to set runtime from 21.0.0.1150 to 19.2.0.2670. But when reopening the IDE cannot open the target.

Anyway in PB 2019 R3 runtimes from later major releases are not available in the list.

Andreas.

I believe you are mixing two threads.

I see to issues. 2021 IDE trying to reopen last open workspace from 2019 and vice versa.

The other has to do with switching the runtime in 2021 from 21.0.0.1150 (after having migrated the application) to 19.2.0.2670 again.

Yes, we've now captured both issues in the associated ticket. Let's see what Engineering has to say. ;-)

Hi Andres;

Yes & no ...  it does not work that way. Only higher based PB Versions can build from lower runtime build numbers. Lower PB Versions cannot build higher PB runtime versions.

Regards ... Chris

Hi Andres,

To illustrate what Chris explained, if PowerBuilder IDE 2021 is still using PowerBuilder Runtime 2019 R3, but your application is already upgraded to 2021, you cannot open the application in the IDE. If your application is still 2019 R3, you can open it in the IDE.

Best regards, Julie

Thank you. This wasn't clear to me. I believe it should be clearly stated in documentation.
