Hello,

All of a sudden my PB 2019 IDE stopped opening. I click the icon in the Windows menu, the splash window opens, and then PB's icon just sits in the task bar. Nothing happens when I click it, and when I hover the mouse pointer over it, an empty window picture is shown. I've never seen anything like that before, so I'm lost how to troubleshoot and fix this. Help!

Best regards,
Konstantin

Sorry for not mentioning this, but yes, I did all the obvious steps like restarting PB and Windows, and even deleting the default layout in Registry (even though that didn't make much sense as I configured IDE not to reopen a workspace on startup).

After hours of trying to figure out what happened, I found out that PB saved its window position in pb.ini as -32000:-32000. Deleting this setting brought my PB IDE back!

If anyone has this happen again, try this:

alt-space - to bring up the window menu

M - to move the window

any arrow key to link the window to input

move mouse to drag window into place (but don't hit button until it's somewhere you can see it)

You can also hit X to maximize the window too

With remote work and multiple monitors I get this sometimes with other apps too (like Outlook)

There is another trick that works, if you hover over the icon of the active application in the taskbar and then right-click on the preview that pops up you get the option to maximize the window, this will maximize it on the screen that you're on (Restore doesn't work laughing)

Win 11 pro

When I did the right-click on the preview, the options were behind the preview.

Maximize was not completely visible.

All I saw was imize

I clicked on it and my PB restored.

Moving the mouse to any of the menu entries should close the preview. It helps to right-click near the right edge of the preview. I agree that the popup menu being behind the preview is a terrible design choice by Microsoft.

I suppose you've done the obvious turn off and on again

Uninstall re-install maybe?

Hi Konstantin;

  Have you tried ...

  1. Run RegEdit.exe
  2. Delete the entire painter layout registry key ... HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sybase\PowerBuilder\19.0\Layout\Default
  3. Restart PB IDE

 HTH

Regards ... Chris
