Resolved Offline activation cannot find a valid license

Hi folks,

 

We're trying to activate PowerBuilder offline on some VMs that don't have access to the Internet.

Trying the offline activation (generate a client request / copy to clipboard and so on). In a machine with Internet access, accessing the link for activation, we paste the client request code, and the answer is always "Cannot find a valid license".

This happens even if I generate a request for a notebook (not connected to Internet), for example (VMs are not the issue, so).

In this same notebook, when connected to Internet, I can log in online, using the same account, normally.

I don't think license is the problem here.

Offline activation not allowed on virtualized environments.  You must use online license type.

You need to have your email assigned to the license and the license type set to offline in the license portal. Please have your license administrator do this: https://docs.appeon.com/appeon_online_help/pb2019r2/appeon_license_user_guide/assigning_users.html

Hi, Armeen, this worked quite well, including on a VM!! The tip is the license mode. All of them were set to online, by default. Once I unassign it and reassign to offline, it works.

BUT... if you disconnect from the VM and reenter, the license is still there, but since our VMs are dynamic (it changes everytime you log into it), you cannot logoff or you loose your license and you can't even ask for deactivtion. It's like a new machine. Only works if you DISCONNECT, not LOGOFF. Documentation says I'll have to ask to Appeon Support to release the license we lose when we logged off.

If you are using online license type just configure PowerBuilder to auto logo-off your license and you should be fine. Offline will be problematic if you try to use in virtualized environment, especially since you say your VMs are dynamic.
