We're switching from SQL Anywhere using ODBC to MS SQL Server 2022. We are also on PB 2022 R2... What would be the advantage of using MSOLEDBSQL19 over ODBC?  or does it matter?

More SQL Server feature and theoretically faster performance.

Hi, Richard -

ODBC is "middle-ware"... an additional layer of software interfaces between your application and the RDBMS.

It may or may not matter to you, but the Microsoft MSOLEDBSQL client does require installation on each client machine via the Microsoft-supplied .msi - You cannot simply copy some files to certain directories like you could with the deprecated Native Client (SNC) driver. It is possible, however, to install the MSOLEDBSQL .msi silently via command-line switches. More information is available on Microsoft's web site.

Best regards, John
