I have PB 2017 R3 installed on a new WIN computer.

However, SQL Anywhere 11 did not automatically install.

How do I install and plug into my PB?

If you REALLY need version 11, that one came with PB 11.5 and PB 12.0.

If you don't have any of those versions, you can download it from here https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=1dG9dX-__7vNyN2ruc9F7Qd_TShZZt2Mo

I'll deleted it from my drive after a week or so.

regards.

Hi David,

SQL Anywhere is a product of SAP and PowerBuilder is a product of Appeon so you need to obtain SQL Anywhere separately from SAP if that is the database you want to use.

I believe you can obtain a free developer edition of SQL Anywhere from SAP, but the issue is that SQL Anywhere 11 was discontinued long ago so SAP not distributing such extremely old version anymore.  You can download SQL Anywhere 17 here: https://www.sap.com/cmp/td/sap-sql-anywhere-developer-edition-free-trial.html

Starting from PowerBuilder 2021, we are updating the demo apps to support PostgreSQL in addition to SQL Anywhere so our customers have a free and open source DB option.

Best regards,
Armeen

Hi Armeen

How does PostGreSQL performance and feature set compare to that of SQL Anywhere?

Hi Yakov, I don’t have detailed or comprehensive comparison, but we have customers switching from Oracle to Postgres. Considering SQL Anywhere was meant to be a lightweight/embedded database, I would be surprised if performance and features of Postgres is not better than SQL Anywhere. I think the only issue you may encounter is SQL Anywhere easier to config and use.
