Hi,

are there any possibilites to migrate datawindows automatically to a new database scheme, if the length of some fields have changed?

Actually i have to edit each datawindow and change the length of the database manually....

We use the ASE Database 16.5 and PB Versopn 2019 R3

thanks for a helpful tip

kr

Hi Andree ;

  Yes, if the DB Schema changes column sizes, then it's currently a manual DWO source code editing effort to refactor these changes in your associated DWO(s). A long time ago in the PowerSoft days, there was a DW Synchronization utility that would do that for you. Unfortunately, that utility seems to have disappeared after the PB v6.5 time frame as Sybase took over PB.  :-(

Hi Miguel;

Yes, they were brought back as an open source option but that was still long time ago. I'm not sure what ever happened to them though.

All ... PS: The VisualExpert Tool is also awesome for this job as you can tell it to start from a specific DB Table and then get a cross reference to all the DWO's and / or In-Line SQL that is dependent on that Schema definition. Then from that report, VE can take you right to the "to be fixed" object in the PB IDE. HTH ;-)

Yes, I know about the VisualExport tool, but it's not cheap and basically they took "free code" to turn in into expensive products. Of course they're free to do so and yes, they did attribute a lot of stuff to the once "free code".

Hi.

I think what Chris remembers is Advanced Powerbuilder Utilities.

A screenshot from PB 5:

I don't remember if that tool was open sourced. I have to search my backup media...

Very nice...

By the way DataWindow Extended Attribute Synchronizer seems not to be what Andree is looking for. This tool "Updates attributes of existing DataWindow objects from the PowerBuilder extended attribute tables" as it is stated.
