Dear Support Team,

 

We are planning to buy Power Builder Professional 2021 to build the Power Builder client application. We are new in Appeon Products. Functionalities of the application are following;

  • Preview PSR file in Datawindow object
  • Export PSR report into PDF format

Later, this application will be published in Citrix environment and from there user will access the application. This is all about the application background. We have following questions regarding the licensing. Already we have gone through the Power Builder Licensing FAQs but still we need to confirm.

  • Do we need to buy any additional distribution license in order to deploy the application in other machine?
  • How many users can access the deployed (published) application at a time? Is there any restriction of users?
  • After Subscription of Power Builder Professional 2021 will be expired, do we need to renew subscription in order to run the published application? Can we run the published application after subscription is expired?

Hi Dave;

  1. There is no extra licensing for the PB Apps that you compile & deploy from the IDE. Only the IDE requires a license to operate.
  2. There is no restriction on the number of App users a deployed EXE can handle. The limitation would be your environment resources (including Network, DBMS, etc) to handle a super large set of concurrent App users.
  3. No, App EXE's will always continue to run. Only access to the PB IDE for App updates would cease until you renew your PB License (subscription).

Okay I get what you are saying but am extremely confused since this page indicates that we (developers and application maintainers) have a limit on User Sessions, which we have to pay for. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

This page is for PowerServer. Not for powerbuilder. Information provided by Chris is correct. In original question there was not any question about Powerserver.

I have a free PSR Viewer app you can download:

https://www.topwizprogramming.com/freecode_psrviewer.html

It is written in PowerBuilder 10.5 but can easily be migrated to your version. The SaveAs PDF uses Ghostscript but could easily be changed to NativePDF.
