Hello,

unfortunately, we've noticed a few issues working with the PowerBuilder Fundamentals, especially with the Lab Workbook and Application Specifications Documents.

First Question: does the abbreviation "SS", which is mentioned in the Lab Workbook, refer to the Application Specifications Document? Or is there another document which wasn't included in the download?

Now to the points we noticed:

For example, in the Lab Workbook Page 64 Lab 12-1 Task#3 it says "m_sheet" is inherited from "m_menubar" but if you look in the Application Specifications Page 58 25.1 Overview "m_sheet" is inherited from "m_anc".

Another example is: "w_choose_customer" mentioned on Page 89 Lab 19-1 doesn't exist our guess is that  "w_customer_search" is meant instead.

Also, we were a bit confused about the spelling because sometimes it's "inv_customer" and in other passages it's "lnv_customer"

Hi Janina;

  Thank you for the feedback. The course was an update of the Sybase Intro to PB course when Appeon took over PB from SAP in 2016. At that time, the course was designed for PB 12.6. Appeon updated it for PB2017 specifically but left the v12.6 look & feel as well as PB developers were still using 12.6 at the time as well. There are still a few weak areas that we did not get to (my apologies).  Also now that Appeon has released PB 2019Rx and PB2021, the course could now use some more "tweaking" for newer release features. Appeon is aware of these.

Regards ... Chris

From the PB Fundamentals pdf: https://www.appeon.com/system/files/power-builder/PB_Fundamentals_Documents.zip

SS means Specification Sheet

I guess they're terms specifically for use the Lab, but haven't really done one myself. Maybe I should after 28 years :)

About "inv_customer" vs. ""lnv_customer":

Lnv would be local variable instance of the object.

Inv would be an Instance variable instance of the object.

Of course this is just a naming convention and doesn't mean the developer / writer of the Labs might have made a mistake.

As for the abbreviation "SS", it could be many things, like for example "SQL Server".
