Resolved IDE Bitness

Hey all,

I have a quick question about the bitness of the Powerbuilder 2017 IDE. I am using Powerbuilder 2017 R3 Build 1858, and I know that it is a 32bit development environment. 

My question is: does a 64bit version of the IDE exist? Does there exist a 64bit IDE for Powerbuilder 2019? If not are there any plans to release a 64bit environment, and if so is there an estimate on when that will be released?

Hi Ray;

  Not currently. There are more 64bit IDE features though planned in PB2022 ... for example a 64bit debugger. You can see these details on the PB Roadmap. Appeon does modify this road map from time to time, so please make sure that you revisit the roadmap area once in a while for the latest information ...

Hi Ray,

A 64-bit version does not exist; however, you can compile to 64-bit.

If you are going to compile to 64-bit, the minimum PowerBuilder version you should use is 2019 R3.  Older versions didn't support RegistryGet/Set properly, lacked 64-bit RichText TX control, and missing 64-bit fixes.

As far as 64-bit roadmap, we plan on adding 64-bit debugger to PowerBuilder 2022 but no 64-bit IDE planned soon.  Please refer to the product roadmap page.

What problem are you trying to solve that you are asking about 64-bit IDE?

Hi Armeen,

The main problem for me, is that you cannot use any 64 bit visual activeX controls if the IDE doesn't allow to paste them. The only reason why we cannot compile as 64 bit.

We are working on that after we support 64-bit debugging.
