Hello community,

We need to open Powerbuilder IDE 2019R2 and Powerbuilder IDE 2022R2 at the same time for code maintenance between all our versions. The solution of opening 2 versions of one version and closing one to open the other version, seems not to work with Powerbuilder 2022 (we use this between PB2017 and PB2019). How can this be done? It is essential for us to be able to consult and transfer code between all our versions of Powerbuilder.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Pierre

I'm going to say something that you might not like, but I really don't understand why we, who have been paying for licenses for years, have to put up with this kind of joke.
Between PB2017 and PB2019, and now with 2022, it's getting worse and worse...

There is a workaround for versions 2019 and 2017: simply open two instances and close one when the license is locked to be able to connect. This solution does not seem to work with 2022.

2022 supports being used simultaneously with all previous versions as far back as 2019 R3. As I mentioned, we made this enhancement starting in 2019 R3. Workarounds are just that... temporary solution until you can move forward they aren't going to work forever. Please prioritize to upgrade to at least a supported version like 2019 R3. 2019 R2 is EOL.

Unfortunately for us, the solution is to postpone the adoption of PB2022, we have enough work with real problems, and maybe next year we'll move our different versions of KTP to 2019R3 and 2022...

"be able to consult and transfer code between all our versions of Powerbuilder"

just add the other version's pbls to your library list and look at the code.    worst case is you may have to look at it via source.

Switching to R3 is not easy for us, as it means that we have to deploy a new version of the runtime with a new R3 compilation to our customers. What's more, our versions are subject to testing by a quality assurance team, so normally this PB version change should involve a test phase before delivery....And there is also Infomaker to Upgrade. So a lot of impacts.

Unless we have a guarantee that the switch from R2 to R3 will not affect the operation of our product?

Is it possible to use two licenses to connect? two licenses with same email... is it possible? (we have 2 or 3 licenses available)

I think the question is: does the R3 IDE support building with the R2 runtime?

also, two licenses with same email does not work.

2022 R3 IDE supports R2 runtime as well. But 2019 R3 does not support R2 runtime because the change of decoupling the runtime from the IDE happened starting in 2019 R3.

You can surely use two licenses but each license must have unique email address. If it is same person perhaps one you use company email and another one use a personal email.

Hi, Pierre -

If you migrate PB 2019 from R2 to R3, you will be able to open it and PB 2022 at the same time. The ability to do this was added to PB in 2019 R3.

Best regards, John

Exactly John is right. Upgrade your 2019 R2 to R3. R2 is end of support anyway and R3 is more stable than R2. Can't think of any reason not to at least upgrade to 2019 R3.
