Hi all.

Do you know if there's a way to extend the PowerBuilder IDE, other than adding some custom buttons to the toolbars?

For instance, I'd like to customize the system tree so that, by right-clicking on an object, I can launch custom programs that act on the selected object. Or, I would like to add buttons to any script editor that can read and write from/into the current script.

Thank you all,
Luca

Hi Luca;

   No, the IDE has no such documented options for this type of customization. Of course, you can do all of that via "Custom" toolbar icons on any of the IDE's toolbars (as you already mentioned).  ;-)

Another way to handle what I think you want to do is to work within the menu script for the treeview item.

You code a call to the application required and pass it the data from the current object; I'm not sure if you can pass the object itself because PB objects are unique entities.

He is asking about the IDE itself, not an application.

I know, but I was offering a possible work-around.

Thanks, Roland -

The PB9 Advanced C/S Development book had a chapter on it. Here is a summary of it from the old PBDJ:

I'm thinking of doing a presentation of it at the next user conference.

Thank you Roland, I took a look to the book, you're right: it's in chapter 5 ;-) I think I should re-read that book, there are lots of useful advices.

You can add items to the New window and create wizards launched from the New window or from a toolbar button.

You can't add items to the menus.

Thank you Roland, I didn't know about the chance of customizing the New window. I don't think it will be enough for me, but I'll give it a try.
