We are all familiar with drop-down selection lists automatically adjusting their contents as we type.  We can then select the perfect list item at any time as the drop-down list resolves, even by arrowing down and hitting .  A perfect example is the Google search field (when it transmits characters as typed).

It would be really nice if PB Classic DDDWs supported this feature natively.  This feature would go a long way to modernizing the utility of PowerBuilder applications, and very much enhancing the end user experience!

At the very least, the dynamically filtered items in the list could match what the user types in the DDDW Display column.  It would be even better if
  1. The developer could identify more DDDW dataobject columns to use when filtering (useful when more than one column displays in that drop-down dataobject)
  2. The filtered items match the typed characters anywhere they occur rather than just a prefix match.

This probably can be implemented with PowerScript, but it seems a very good candidate for native PB support.

I have actually asked for this for years, and always get sympathetic feedback.  However I am emboldened to ask again because of Appeon's superior responsiveness, especially in light of the latest Appeon newsletter talking about implementing features long requested by customers!

How about this one, Appeon?  We can't be the only ones who would really like it!

I'd add that ideally this type-ahead feature could be a property that the developer could turn ON or OFF.

Hmmm ... sounds like a "framework" challenge in the interim! ;-)
