Hello,

About PB 2022 R2 Beta

We haven't installed PB 2022 R2 Beta.  Would like to know

1.  Can we digitally sign the PDFs in that version?
2.  If Yes, do we need pfx file to sign?

When we enquired here about pfx files, we came to know that pfx files have been discontinued since 3 years.

Currently a pendrive is supplied with 3 files [ autorun.exe, autorun.inf and one exe file ].   Mostly this pen drive is used by Auditors to file income tax returns of their clients.

When there is a need to use this digital signature, they just plug in this pendrive [of respective customers] and the rest is taken care of.

A couple of our customers wants their files [pdf] to be digitally signed and they have only this pendrive.
1.  Any idea of how to use this to digitally sign the pdf created?
2.  Will the next GA release [PB 2022 R2 ] have this feature available?

Hi BKR,

We do not have plan to support digitally signing the PDFs in 2022 R2 yet. I am now recording this feature as an enhancement request, and will ask the engineering team to study it in the later versions.

Best regards, Julie

Hi Chris, are you referring to the PDFSecurity feature? To my understanding, it does not cover the digital signing function.

Best regards, Julie

Hi.

I believe that Chris wrongfully mentioned that he demonstrated signing pdf's in Elevate.

No, that was not about digital signing. I was talking about adding user, title, author, etc information to the PDF. Sorry for the confusion.

May be this one, Chilkat got this one.

PowerBuilder Sign a PDF using SmartCard or HSM (Hardware Security Module) (example-code.com)

// Load the certificate on the smartcard currently in the reader (or on the USB token).
// Pass an empty string to allow Chilkat to automatically choose the CSP (Cryptographi Service Provider).
// See Load Certificate on Smartcard for information about explicitly selecting a particular CSP.

Probably it may be USB Token. In that case, would like to know whether PB 2022 R2 supports this type of signing the pdf?

The ability to use built-in functions to trigger an "electronic signature" (not only PDF but e.g. XML) would be a much awaited PB extension.
