I am having trouble understanding some properties on the datawindow checkbox control. I have a checkbox with the 'Left Text' and 'RightToLeft' properties both ON. If I set the 'Text' property for the control to 'SC 3:' it displays in run time as ':SC 3'. If I set the 'Text' property to ':SC 3' it displays as 'SC 3:'.

Is this expected behaviour? It seems odd to me.

Hi Jeff;

   Basically, we are guessing at this issue because you did not provide us ...

  1. MS-Windows O/S version & build
  2. PB Version & build
  3. Screen captures of the issue
  4. DWO column type and Edit mask settings

Regards ... Chris

What, specifically, seems odd to you, Jeff? Is it the colon "preceding" the text?

With Left-to-Right in use (Right-to-Left disabled), punctuation such as this follows the text. With Right-to-Left enabled, and when read from right to left, the punctuation follows the text. I wonder if you are looking at Right-to-Left formatted text through a Left-to-Right prism? I believe the Right-to-Left property is intended for use only with languages that are read right to left. When used with a Left-to-Right language such as English, yes, of course, the formatting may look unusual.

If I'm off-base with how I'm reading this post, please clarify.

Best regards, John

I wonder if the result he expects is something in the form ":3 CS" for string "SC 3:"

I'm not sure, Francisco. That's why I asked Jeff to elaborate as to what he considers to be odd in regards to the formatting.

Not sure, but I think you need to make the checkbox field a little wider.

That doesn't affect the odd results I am seeing. Or at least, <<I think>> they are odd.

I think you are right, but I guess that the rightToLeft property is more for some "languages that I don't understand". Weird though that the only thing that goes left is the colon.
