I am trying to make some xml templates to import data through from an XML file.

I noticed that you can not reference control that is not visual. And while I understand that a control is something visual, I don't understand why do I have to put a column on screen just to be able to import related xml data.

As you can see on the picture, I can not reference row_id and asdf columns, just because they are not on any datawindow band.

The work around is easy, but.... why?????

Hi Yiannis;

   The key is to place the column into the detail band to that it can appear for the XML templating feature to see. That is the current design restriction of the DWO/XML features set. Of course, just because its placed in a band, it does not have to be visible.  HTH

  Yes, an old "leftover" from the Sybase days.   ;-)

Regards ... Chris

Could it be that the import/export is done at the visual layer (view) and not at the db layer (model) of the DataWindow? Like, when you want to enable a field for editing you have to place a column on the layout.
