Resolved Connecting to Oracle 12c

Hi All,

I have just installed Powerbuilder 2017, and am having some difficulty connecting to an Oracle 12c database.

When I go to DB Profile, I only get options for Oracle 9i, Oracle 10g and ORA.
When I attempt to create a profile using ORA, I get the error "Oracle 11g or higher client is not installed or not set to Primary Oracle Home."

Have I missed anything? Should I have an option for Oracle 12 in my list Database Profiles screen?

The list of "Installed database interfaces" in the Database Painter of the PowerBuilder IDE was determined by the options you specified during the installation of your PowerBuilder IDE.

If PB2017 has "Oracle 12" listed as one of the options, you can re-install PowerBuider and select that option.

If not, you must use the Oracle 10 or Oracle 11 interface.

Please note that this WILL work; you WILL be able to connect to the Oracle 12 database, but you will not have access to any of the Oracle 12 specific capabilities.

 

Personally, I am connecting to an Oracle 12 database using the Oracle 10 interface, and it works just fine!

Hi,

Please make sure you had installed 32-bit Oracle 12c client on this machine.

Can you connect to Oracle from outside of PB, try using TNSPING to test your connection first. Also the point about the 32-bit version of the client installation is very important.

There will be no option for Oracle 12. For Oracle 11 and 12 use "ORA".

The version you have to use depends from installed Oracle client, not from Oracle server!

I installed Oracle client, and also used the ORA option when setting up the DB Profile.



Its working now. I appreciate every ones assistance.
