Resolved connect to database from Powerclient from outside

Hello, friends.

We are testing PB 2019 R3, and we are very excited about the powerclient functionality. At the moment it works fine.

But we wonder if there will be any possibility  of connecting  in the same way as web. I mean, work from home. I think it's not possible to connect to the database like it can be done in the web version, right?

If not, are you thinking of any solutions to bridge this gap as I think I heard that powerserver will be discontinued in the future?

Hi Juan, Yes there is.  That is called PowerServer 2021.  Beta version available now.  If you want to try it, please email product@appeon.com.

It is tentatively scheduled for May or June 2021 at the latest. It will do exactly what you described in your post.

Hi.

It's not recommended to connect remotely to a database through internet if a security layer isn't used. It's not secure to expose a database directly to the inet. But you could use a vpn. That way, you connect remotely to your database, but you are working as if you were connected to your company's network. Of course except from your powerclient application you will have to install and configure your database's client.

Anyone can make request but it will be up to the product management team to approve because it is a private beta. We are running a private beta because documentation not completed yet and we have limited resources to hold the customer hands.

Great news Armeen, but only in part. If we take the step forward towards powerserver 2021, what happens to our mobile apps? What solution do we have to take the step towards powerserver2021 and continue using our mobile apps? Do we have to give up the mobile part?

Hi Javier, There was no commercially feasible way to move forward with PowerServer 2021 and still support iOS/Android. Also, mobile has evolved so rapidly over the years that we find PowerServer on iOS/Android is just too limiting for most of our customers.
