Hello,

We utilize PowerClient for deploying our app and are contemplating the potential implications of upgrading our PowerBuilder IDE from 2022 R2 to 2022 R3.

Could you clarify whether the Cloud App Launcher would be affected by this upgrade? Specifically, will the version change for the launcher itself, or is the update limited to runtimes?

Additionally, in the event that a new version of the Cloud App Launcher is pending and we wish to ensure our clients benefit from it, is there a mechanism for automating the update of their Cloud App Launcher installers?

Given the scale of our deployment, with over 1500 computers, automating this process would be highly beneficial.

Thank you for your assistance!

Best regards,

Sébastien.

Hi Sébastien,

Thank you for using PowerBuilder.

For development side:

After you upgrade PowerBuilder 2022 R2 and App code to 2022 R3, if you want users who use the PowerClient App client to access the App to upgrade as seamless as possible. You can do the following:

1) In addition to updating the project's runtime to the latest version, there is no need to make any changes to the PowerClient Project parameters;

Of course, you can modify the parameters related to version at server in the project. When modifying it, please ensure that the version number format is consistent with the 2022 R2 release; and ensure that the App name and server configuration in the Project remain unchanged.

2) Before deploying, please check project > Client Deployment > Cloud APP Launcher and Runtime files. They should be checked, so that the new launcher and runtime will be uploaded to the server when the Project is deployed.

3) Rebuild & Deploy PowerClient Project.

For client side:

After the PowerClient is deployed as described above from development side, client users can directly run the App through the original shortcut, and the client will have the following changes:

1) Running the App shortcut will launch the Launcher process and can be automatically upgraded to Cloud App Launcher 2022 R3 (version number 22.2.0.3289), and the latest runtime will be downloaded to the client.

2) When 1) is completed, Launcher will automatically update the application, and the client PowerClient App upgrade is completed.

It is recommended that you conduct an upgrade simulation to verify the process before upgrading in production.

If you have any questions, please contact us in time.

Best Regards

Mora
