Hi everyone,

I've read https://docs.appeon.com/pb2022/pbug/ch04s05s01.html and unfortunately saw the following:

Supports browsing videos at common formats in web page (MPEG-4 ASP, H.264, and H.265 formats are unsupported)

That's pitty because I would need the possibility to play H.264 videos. Is the issue that it is unsupported because H.264 is a proprietary license? Or is it really not implemented in Powerbuilder, and I have to request it? Because if it is the first option, I can manage it on my own and only need to know how to activate it. Does anyone know another option? Changing to VP8 encoding seems to work, but then I've to transcode each video from H.264 to VP8 which I want to avoid.

Thanks for your support and replies ;-)

Best regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

PowerBuilder 2022 uses CEF for providing WebBrowser.  Because CEF only supports open formats and does not provide support for MPEG-4 ASP, H.264, and H.265 for licensing reasons, the current WebBrower does not support those formats too.

Our team plans to replace the WebBrowser engine with Microsoft Edge WebView2 in PowerBuilder 2022 R2 (target release: 2023 Q2).  Then those formats (including H.264) will be supported.

Best regards, Julie

Hi Thomas;

   Please open a Support Ticket as an enhancement request for the built-in Web Browser control to support these other video formats.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies. It is good to know that you plan to change the web browser implementation to provide more capabilities. Anyway, for a short-time solution, I will create a support ticket. I've found on the internet a possibility that may also work with the Powerbuilder.

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi Thomas;

This alternate solution might work as well for the time being...
