Hi,

We have a legacy PB 2021 application where a number of character DataWindow columns have a display format of [general] - note the lower case g.

In the column properties of the DW painter, if I click on the arrow to select a new display format I get the choice of both [general] and [General]. Regardless of which format I choose the sample displayed is always: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ i.e. uppercase characters.

My first thought was that the previous developers had defined a custom format which they had called [general] but when I look at the available display formats in the extended attributes of the Database painter I see only [General] - which is defined as a number format, not character. [general] is nowhere to be found.

What's going on here?

Regards,

Michael Connell.

[general] is a format used for alphanumeric fields, while [General] and [general] is available in other datatypes (numeric, dates e.t.c. Here both [General] and [general] should have the same sample...). It's a default setting. I don't think you will find it defined somewhere.

Andreas.
