Resolved Azure SQL Server MFA Authentication

As best as I can tell, it is currently impossible to connect the PB IDE or a PB Application to Azure SQL Server using MFA Authentication, comparable to the "Azure Active Directory - Universal with MFA" authentication option in SQL Server Management Studio.

I was hoping this capability would be released with PB 2022 R2, but there is no mention in the release notes.

Could you please verify this is not currently possible?

If it is still impossible, what would be considered the current best practice for authenticating a PB application to Azure SQL Server?  Manually setting up logins, database users, and passwords in Azure SQL Server?  I'm not very fond of this option.  I really need an SSO solution.

Hi Larry,

 

Azure SQL Server MFA Authentication is not yet supported in PB2022 R2. We have documented your requirements and will consider it in later versions of development.

But PB2022 R2 did upgrade the ADO.NET driver. Please check whether Active Directory Password Authentication and Active Directory Integrated Authentication in SQL Server are suitable for you.

Does it work with Microsoft.Data.SqlClient 2.1.0? Sorry, I can't find current PowerBuilder documentation on what is supported in this regard.

It seemed appropriate to ask and receive answers to the following prior to requesting an enhancement in case an alternative already exists:

Hi Larry,

Just as a suggestion, if you wish for a feature to be implemented on PB, you should submit an enhancement request through our support portal, so that our team become aware that desire for a specific feature exists, and can be considered in the roadmap for future development if the feature becomes requested enough.
