I had no idea what an SSE file was. Google says:

SSE file is a StrataSearch Data File. StrataSearch is software for developing personalized trading systems. Using an automated search, users define the characteristics they'd like to see in a trading system, and let StrataSearch explore trillions of formula combinations in search of such systems.

Is StrataSearch a tool being used on the server? By you?

No. I have never heard about it. If you save the file it is an not readable binary file.

This might be a VMWare VSphere file (maybe a diagnostic/dump)? I think you should pursue this with VMWare.
