Hi

I have Licensed PowerBuilder CloudPro. I am license  administrator for my organization. My concern is that I am not able to open multiple instances of PowerBuilder at the same time. Example I am migrating from PB2017 to PB2022 and want to have both instance open so I can verify. When I try opening it give multiple login error. If I have a licensed version, I should be able to open as many PB versions available at the same time. I have also seen the same error when I was trying to open multiple PB2022 R3 build 3356 versions. Please let me know why this restriction is there?

Hi.

Last version of PowerBuilder 2017 R3 is build 1951. In that specific build, this issue was addressed, as you can see in the following link: Improvements - - Release Bulletin for PowerBuilder 2017 R3 (appeon.com). Be careful about the following note:

IMPORTANT notes (for both online and offline license upgrade): If you want to upgrade PowerBuilder to 2019 R3 GA or 2017 R3 MR 1951, you will need to log out from PowerBuilder to deactivate the license first before the upgrade, otherwise, the license file will be occupied and may not be upgraded successfully, and you may need to log out the license (if it is an online license) from the Appeon website or contact Appeon support to log out the license (if it is an offline license).

So, if you want to be able to concurrently use PB 2017 and PB 2022 (same user - same machine), you will have to upgrade to PB 2017 R3 1951 (Appeon User Center).

Andreas.

Also unless you are on 2017 R3, all other versions of 2017 are no longer supported.  I know it's a pain not being able to have both open at the same time while you migrate, but like John said, once you get off 2017 you'll be fine.  Do you have more than 1 license?  If so, you should be able to login as 2 different users to have both open at the same time.

Hi, Zarir -

I believe the issue is with PB 2017, which was Appeon's "first edition" with the new licensing scheme. Later versions allow you to have different versions of PB open simultaneously on a PC. So you know, I just now verified that I can open PB 2019 R3, PB 2021 and PB 2022 R3 (even multiple instances) on my PC at the same time.

I know this does not help you with your current situation, but please know you should not experience this problem once you have migrated off of PB 2017.

Best regards, John

John is exactly right. Once you stop using PB 2017 you won't have this problem anymore.
