Does anyone have experience with SmartBear TestComplete automated testing integration?

If so which PB Version? What are your experiences?

http://support.smartbear.com/testcomplete/docs/app-testing/desktop/power-builder/classic.html

Doco states "12.0, 12.5, 12.5.2 and 12.6"  are supported. It uses accessibility properties of the controls and what appears to be very verbose scripts to access datawindow cells...  On the face of it this all looks daunting and cumbersome...

AND

There is no mention of Appeon Web.  Anyone hasten a guess of whether, once deployed to appeon server the TestComplete would actually not need any of the above since it is now running in a browser?

We tried out TestComplete back in 2010 and found at that time it didn't handle certain datawindow events correctly.  I'm sure they have that resolved by now, but it made it a non-starter for us.  Quite a disappointment given that we use a number of other SmartBear products ( SOAPUI, Code Collaborator) and were happy with them.

You might look at AscentialTest (http://www.automatedtesting.com/AscentialTest.html).  We looked at them right after TestComplete and were more impressed by that.

We use Ranorex (http://www.ranorex.com/) for testing our web applications.

Our QA department has an extensive set of automated tests for our flagship application, based on the SmartBear test suite.  I have not had any negative feedback. Please note that 12.6 build 4138 includes a fix for an MSAA related bug that was causing some automated tests to fail.  SmartBear technical support was very helpful in guiding us to isolate and report the issue.  SAP engineering provided a fix within a reasonable amount of time.

You must have this ebf installed in order to do automated DataWindow data testing under certain conditions

Hello Lars,

two years ago, we have tested different testing tools, to use for testing our PowerBuilder Applications (PB12.5 and 12.6, with pfc and hundreds of windows).

We tried Smart Bear as well, but had have different problems. So we decided to by another tool. We are using this tool.

Best regards

Heiko
