Hello everybody,

I'm facing a strange issue with PowerClient which I'm currently testing under PB 2021 build 1288. I previously made some tests with the beta without the same issue.

The app is a very simple one consisting of a single window and 3 push buttons.

It is directly deployed to an IIS server via FTPS.

I can install it on my PC client using the URL to the deployment server. The launcher is loaded, the app is installed, the shortcuts are created on the desktop and the start menu, and the uninstall shortcut is also created.

At that time the application runs successfully. I can close it and run it again by clicking on the desktop shortcut. Actually, I can only run it one or 2-3 times, then the desktop shortcut disapears and also does the .exe from the installation folder. The only leaving shortcut is the uninstall one, but it fails to complete because the application .exe is not there anymore.

The installation folder is : C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\PBApps\Applications\carnet.spw.test.wallonie.be_test

I tried with 2 differents applications and 2 differents deployment servers with the same result.

I'm quite clueless, so if you have an idea please tell it to me !

Thank you very much !

Pierre

Hi Pierre;

  I recently encountered the same issues. What I found was that the MS-Window "defender" software had marked the App EXE as "UnTrusted". Once that happened (actually in the PB2021 Beta) the GA version of PB/PS2021 also started with these disappearing App entities behaviour.

  The quick test of changing the App EXE name fixed the issue but got me wondering. The long term remedy that I finally found though was to scan the Windows Registry for the disappearing App Name. In the registry I found where Windows Defender logged the trust issue. When I deleted the App name entry from the Windows Defender area, the original App EXE name (and its resources) no longer disappeared.

HTH

Regards ... Chris

sound like your antivirus software removed the exe

its weird that it did not remove it on the initial run.  Usually it detects when you connect to a database and moves it then to a quarantine area

Hello Chris and Mike,

Thank you both for pointing me in the right direction. It appears that McAfee considers the applications as trojan horses. Knowing that, I don't know how to deal with it !

I attached a screen shot to let you see the McAfee action.

Pierre

mcafee has an option to exclude certain files - so you can tell it to exclude that file

Hi Pierre;

McAfee is one of the key AV software that Appeon always tests any new release of Appeon PB with during our QA process before a GA release. I suspect that you are running a slightly out-of-date version and/or its virus definitions. Please contact your organizations infrastructure team to see if McAfee is up-to-date. Note that you might also need to sign your PowerClient system. You can sign the CloudAppLauncher and also your PB App EXE's in the PowerClient project to have MS-Windows and/or McAfee "trust" these EXE's further.

Hi Pierre, In addition to doing what Mike and Chris said, I recommend you report this false positive to McAfee so they can improve their AV engine: https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB85567
