Hi Markus;

  Support for running the PB IDE on Terminal Server is currently (AFAIK) not in the plans for PB2019R2 (due out in Beta this fall).

We have been running PowerBuilder applications as a Service to hundreds of customers around the world via Remote Desktop from Windows Server 2012R2 and Windows 2016 for more than 4 years.  For reasons of architecture on Server versus Desktop, we have found that our applications instantiate and run much faster in this environment than on the fastest workstation using windows 10.

Enhancements in the tools provided by Microsoft for remote pc support on Windows and IOS recently have really improved some of the presentation and scaling issues, making the windows UI more friendly on Hi res clients.

Our biggest problem is the look of the screen drawing and objects, which we hope will be improved in future PB versions.

And yes, the IDE does install and work on Windows Server and is very much needed when debugging large scale applications that are designed to scale out on multi-cpu systems.

PB runtime is supported on Windows Server 2008/2012/2016.

But I presume you're asking whether Appeon is adding Windows Server as supported platform for the PB IDE as of PB 2019 R2?

Not that I have heard of.

Why would you run IDE on server O/S?

Why? When all your server resources are in a data center, having the IDE is the only way you can debug applications designed to scale out in those environments. One of our applications scales across multiple servers managing 144 simultaneous processing threads.
