Dear Appeon Community,

I need information, restrictions, limitations that we should consider regarding an application developed in Powerbuilder 2017 can connect to databases in the cloud (SQL as a Service). This application will be hosted on Windows 2010.

Any information I will be grateful.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Javier

If you use Azure sql (which is sql server as a service), then you simply connect like a local database.  Same thing if you host sql server in a VM on aws, azure, or where ever.

You should use encryption in these cases.  azure sql has everything setup already so you just need to use the encryption setting in your connection string.

Hi Javier;

     FWIW:   I have SS2015 / SS2017 running in an EC2 Instance on AWS. Using "Elastic" addressing, I know the IP static address and then just need to set the Port number from my PB IDE and/or Apps (including PowerServer). Works like a charm with that Cloud provider for me under that configuration.

Regards ... Chris
