Hi everyone

This is something that has nagged me for quite a while:

How do you get the Powerbuilder IDE to use Autoscript on built-in functions (things like GetFileOpenName) so you get placeholders for arguments.

Autoscripts only seems to work on object functions, while the Edit->Paste Special->Function-Built-in only inserts the Function Name (which isn't all that helpful).

Right now I just keep the Powerscript Reference PDF in reach, but that can't really be the intended solution.

Regards,
Markus

It's not perfect, but possible.

Thanks to you Chris for all the great work you're doing over the years.

Maybe this would be a good feature request though.

OMG ... <sigh> The number of times that I've seen / heard that enhancement request across all the previous owners of PB. </sigh>

The guy who wrote the current AutoScript feature is my friend Reed Shilts. He got fed up one day and wrote this feature over a weekend. I wish Sybase would have let him work on AutoScript#2 another weekend or two. ;-)

I suppose this particular fruit is so low-hanging, you'd have to dig it out of the earth by now :p

Too bad Powerbuilder isn't developed in Powerbuilder. The devs would've added the feature for their own sanity years ago...

Hi,

I think alltogether, this is because Appeon is concentrating on going snapdevelop/c# and imho neglecting the powerbuilder ide, especially it's editor for some time if not even years. Autoscript iin pb is so far behind modern tools like Visual Studio Code's Intellisense and for me hardly useable at all, because of the way it interacts with the programmer. Just one simple example, and there are numerous others: it's a long way to find referencing object declarations to a function or object i'm just typing in Powerbuilder, just one click away in VS-code oder MS-VS.

Maybe it's my lone opinion, but I like much more working with the lightweight VS-Code as an editor than PB and it hurts, cause about 90% of my programming must be done in PB.

regards

Peter
