Hello,

I'm trying to create a database connection in SnapDevelop 2019 R3 (I tried in R2 also) to an Oracle database, but I get the error "ORA-12537: Network Session: End of file". It's strange because I can connect to this database in Powerbuilder without any trouble. This database is in Oracle's cloud, and the service name is a bit long (38 characters).

I haven't found how to solve this issue so I'm stuck here and cannot continue the customer's project. Can anybody help me please?

Kind regards.

Hi Francisco!

It's an Oracle 12.2.0.1.0 - 64bit. I'm trying that the DBA team creates a new an shorter service name but I'm still waiting for it.

Thanks!

Alex, someone suggested that the issue might be the service name having periods in it. Could you maybe try a service name without periods?

Francisco

Hi,

Finally it seems that is not possible to create a shorter service name without periods in Oracle Cloud databases. I'll open a support ticket then to see if something can be done.

Thanks!

Hi Francisco,

Thanks for your reply. That list of workarounds are for the case in which the Oracle TNS names path is too long but, if I'm not wrong, SnapDevelop does not use TNSNames does it? I mean, Powerbuilder do use TNSNames for the connection and in my case it works, but when I try to connect SnapDevelop to the same database it fails.

This is the connection dialog in SnapDevelop where I have the error:

It's the same information that can be found in tnsnames.ora:

This configuration works in Powerbuilder.

Kind regards.

Hi Alex,

TNSNames hasn't been supported in SnapDevelop.

If this the error "ORA-12537: Network Session: End of file" is still existing, please report your issue via our support ticketing system to ensure it is being properly received by our tech support and tracked at: https://www.appeon.com/standardsupport/.

Hi Alex,

According to this page, it certainly seems that the connection string might be a little bit too long. The same page suggests, among other things:

  1. Install the exe in a shorter named directory.
  2. Modify the TNS Names entry so that it is shorter.
  3. Replace domain names with IP Addresses if that shortens and vice versa.

Please let me know if this helps

Regards,
Francisco
