I have a simple RTF control

I enter test, press enter twice and then Test. Again

My results when converted to HTML within an outlook draft are

test

test

What is the problem with this. I thought the control was fixed. I'm using Built In TXT control ?

Should I be using something else ?

Any help appreciated.

Richard

Hi Richard,

If you are long-time user of RichTextEdit then we recommend to use "Built-in TX Text Control" option.  This is based on same implementation of the control that was in previous Sybase versions of PB whereas the "Built-in Rich Edit Control" is a totally new implementation.

Are you saying this worked fine in older versions of PowerBuilder and in your current version it has this problem?

If yes, please open a support ticket: https://www.appeon.com/standardsupport/newbug

Regards,
Armeen

Hi Richard;

   FYI ... PB2019 Bug Fixes

FWIW: I did not see any fix in the above list that addressed your issue.

what I am asking is which text editor did you fix the issue when pressing enter displays special characters ?

I read this in the 2019 bug fix.

Just type in Test then press enter twice and then send to outlook

Hi Richard & Armeen,

Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.

We double-checked the bug fixed list and emails we sent, they don’t contain the issue you mentioned.

We also found that there is no other customer reported this issue to us. So this issue should NOT be mentioned in the bug fixes.

And we followed the reproduce steps you provided but can't reproduce it on our end.

We can transfer the Enter data to the HTML file successfully.

Could you please report this problem to our ticket system: https://www.appeon.com/standardsupport/newbug and please also provide a PB test case(with PBT/PBL) when you submit it to the ticket system so that we can reproduce it on our end and help you solve this issue.

Mark,

The bug was listed as fixed. "carriage return in RTF control causes a "?" mark symbol and now on that exact email, the bug is removed from the list.

It was the email that first announced 2019. If you use the new RichTextEdit is does not so it but the TXT control does.

I will submit a bug

Hi Richard,

Sorry to let you know that we checked the fixed BUG list on both PB 2017 R3 & PB2019 in our internal system and still can't find any info about 'carriage return in RTF control causes a "?" '.

We also checked our support ticketing system and there was no customer reported this issue to us before.

Please report it as a bug to us in our support ticketing system with a reproducible case so that we can help you deal with this issue.

We appreciate your understanding.

Also, I read that the bug when you press enter and it use to show a ? mark was fixed in 2019 and this is why we upgraded our apps.

Armeen,

The original implementation was full of issues with pressing enter and question marks appeared, weird characters appearing etc.

My understanding is all this was fixed. We would like to use the best control available. Our customers are complaining that can't trust the emails sent out.

Please advise.

Thanks

What We have concluded is the original TXT RTF control is of no value when converting documents to HTML for outlook. But we have been using the new built-in Rich-Text-Edit control and that has been a working perfectly.

I am also wondering if Appeon will ever spend some time and add a true HTML editor vs. all these C# features. We are trying to develop a true communication tool within our commercial apps and RTF is old. Right now we are evaluating 3rd party HTML editors. Thanks for all the help and feedback
