I'm late to this topic so I must assume it has been asked and answered many times but I need to ask:

I'm embarking on building an app to run on a tablet (iPad). My question is: How does this app connect to an Oracle database residing on a server in my office? What middleware and/or technology will provide the connectivity? What if the server is in the "cloud"? What about using MSSQL instead?

If I can be pointed at any white papers and/or example apps I will be grateful.

TIA

Thanks for the reply, Chris.

Now that I am pointed at Appeon Powerserver, I wonder whether there are any useful tutorials or webinars or PowerBuilder TV episodes covering the usage and deployment of same. Examples are always most useful.

Thanks again

Larry

Hi Chris,

Now that I have spent some time watching the Appeon-U videos I have attempted the "Hello World" example. I find I cannot configure PowerServer. I get: "Failed to connect to PowerServer "Local PowerServer"! Please verify that PowerServer "Local PowerServer" is running." So I used my browser to visit localhost/aem. There is a banner "This PowerServer is not activated" A logon is required but I have no idea what it is. I went to the User Centre and I believe my problem is that I have not enrolled for an Enterprise Account. Doing so should give me three PowerServer licenses. So I enrolled but now I need to wait up to 5 days for the Enterprise Account. I am doing the right things?

TIA

Larry

Hi Larry;

The "Enterprise Account" licensing would be for production and not development. The "Universal" version of PB 2019 includes a "Developer" version of PowerServer. The developer PS version should be installed on your local PC's IIS server. Please make sure that you have configured your local IIS instance correctly and then install the PS "developer" version from within the PB2019 installation. Then complete the PS "activation" step. From there, you should be able to run the "Sales" demo app (I would suggest installing the PS Demo DB and applications). If all that works ok - then proceed to your "Hello World" app test.

Thanks Olan, but these are outdated. The latest tutorials/videos are on our own website.

The PowerBuilder TV materials for PowerServer are outdated (so please ignore Olan's suggestion). The latest PowerServer videos are in Appeon-U https://www.appeon.com/appeon-u/powerserver-web-mobile-tutorial/unit01/class01 and the video library https://www.appeon.com/developers/library/videos-for-apb

Armeen - the old ones are what came up in a Google search. Might want to get the old site removed or forwarded to the new site.
