Hello there,

i would like to know if there are productive PowerBuilder 12.6 Classic 64 Bit / Appeon Powerbuilder 2017 Application deployed in the Field?

AFAIK there are still issues (RTF-Control, ActiveX/OLE Control’s) even with 12.6 PL13

Thanks for replies

Marco

Hi Marco,

PB 12.6 used a different and arguably much poorer RTE implementation when deploying to 64-bit compared to 32-bit.  To the best of my knowledge, the reason for this was that the third-party vendor only provided 32-bit version of the RTE for PB.

In PB 2017, we switched the 32-bit RTE implementation to a different third-party vendor that offers both 32 and 64-bit.  This way we can ensure our customers have a unified experience regardless of the bits.

But please note that the current build of PB 2017 is still using the old RTE implementation when compiling to 64-bit.   We first focused to switch out the 32-bit RTE and then we will proceed to switch out the 64-bit RTE.

Regards,
Armeen

If that is the case, Armeen, the bug that I reported about the Help page on deployment listing the old RTE control's files for deployment, rather than the new RTE's files, is only half correct. It seems that the Help needs to say "If you are deploying 32-bit, use these files (the new ones); if you are deploying 64 bit, use these other files (the old ones)". The Help page about the changes in the RTE control would also have to say something about that.
